Touring the Wine Regions of France

In France there are many wine producing regions each with popular wine tours. Many see France as the center of modern wine making and the French wine tour is a natural  extension of the winery business. Each region offers a unique tasting and sightseeing experience.

French Regional Wine Tours

Alsace:

Situated in the North-East of France near the border of Germany, it is popular for wine tours.  Alsace is a relatively small wine growing region known primarily for white wines including Gewurtztraminer, Pinot Blanc and Riesling.

Bordeaux:

Some of the most popular French wine tours are in the world-renowned Bordeaux wine growing region. The French wine enthusiast can experience some of the world's most famous wine varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carbernet Franc.

Burgundy:

This region is located in the East of France between Lyon and Dijon. Wine tours in Burgundy will feature wines from white as well as red grapes. In addition you will experience the enjoyable Beaujolais wine. Beaujolais grapes are grown  South of Burgundy where it is warmer. Many consider this to be a unique wine region in itself.

The extraordinary Nouveau Beaujolais is released to an excited public on the third Thursday in November. There are dozens of festivals throughout France to commemorate the annual event.  Many popular French wine tour schedules are designed to take advantage of this celebration.

Champagne:

The only true Champagne is produced in this region just an hour East of Paris. Delightful, high quality tours are offered and many of the larger wineries put on a grand show.

Rhone and Loire Valleys:

These valleys have a range of climates and soils which allow a broad variety of grapes to be grown. Although not as well recognized outside of Europe, Locally these wines are known for red and white wines of exceptional value.

Provence:

Any French wine tour should include Provence. This is a beautiful region In the South-East of France where French wine cultivation very likely began in the 6th century B.C.

Organized French wine tours can be either a guided tour or an independent tour. Lavish tours may include a wine expert as well as transportation. On an independent tour you may still have all the arrangements made for you. There are several wine tour travel companies which will provide services to customize your tour. Some French wine tours will include hotel accommodations and restaurant reservations as part of a package.
